Safeguarding

At Hotwells Primary School, safeguarding our children remains our highest priority and we are committed to providing a safe and secure environment for children, staff and visitors.

Amplify Education believes that the welfare and safety of the children in their care is of paramount importance. It seeks to create and maintain a safe environment for children and young people, and manage situations where there are child welfare concerns by:

  • Ensuring there is a designated senior member of staff for Safeguarding and Child Protection (Mr. Matt Edwards) at Hotwells Primary School;
  • Ensuring that the school has designated Deputy Safeguarding Leads (Mrs. Emily Allan and Mrs. Claire Burn);
  • Ensuring the Safeguarding and Child Protection Policy is reviewed regularly in response to changing legislation;
  • Ensuring that all staff and volunteers are aware that they are responsible for being aware of these procedures and act upon them where necessary.

If you have any concerns about a child's safety you should report this immediately to the school's Designated Safeguarding Leads (DSLs).  At our school the DSLs are:

Mr. Matt Edwards

Head of School
(Designated Safeguard Lead)

Mrs. Emily Allan

Pastoral Lead
(Deputy DSL)

Mrs. Claire Burn

Inclusion Lead
(Deputy DSL from October '26)

The Governor with responsibility for Safeguarding is currently: Ms. Anthea Bruges.

We follow the Bristol Child Protection Procedures and the Local Safeguarding Children’s Board local guidance and have systems in place to share concerns regarding children’s welfare, child sexual exploitation, PREVENT/radicalisation and female genital mutilation with our DSLs, with parents and with relevant external agencies. Part of our legal duty to safeguard our children, may also include us needing to consult specifically with and take advice from, the Police or Children's Social Care, should the need arise.

If you have concerns about a child please come and speak to us.  We are contactable via the School Office.  Alternatively, you can contact First Response on 0117 903 6444. Please visit their website for more information.
