    Remote Learning

At Hotwells Primary School, we are committed to ensuring that all pupils continue to receive a high-quality education, even when they are unable to attend school in person. This page outlines our remote learning provision, in line with Department for Education expectations.

    When is Remote Learning provided?:

Remote education is provided in the following circumstances:

    • School closures or restrictions on attendance, where school access for pupils is restricted.
    • When a pupil is required to stay at home due to exceptional circumstances.
    • Individual cases where a pupil is unable to attend school but is able to learn.

We aim to provide remote learning from the first day of absence where possible, or as soon as is reasonably practicable.

    accessing remote learning:

We use Google Classroom as our main platform for setting and sharing learning.

In the event of a class or whole school closure:

    • Pupils will be invited to a daily online meeting via Google Meet at the start of the school day
    • This session will be used to welcome pupils, explain the day’s learning, and maintain a sense of routine and connection

Pupils and families can access remote learning by:

    • Logging into their Google Classroom account
    • Viewing daily or weekly learning tasks set by the class teacher
    • Submitting completed work through the platform

Class Dojo will continue to be used for:

    • Communication with families
    • General updates and announcements

Where it is appropriate, additional resources may be provided via other online platforms or physical learning packs.

    Keeping in touch:

We value regular communication with families. In the event of a school closure, parents and carers can:

    • Contact teachers via Class Dojo messaging.
    • Receive updates, annoucements and support through the platform.

Teachers will respond within normal working hours.  Alternatively, parents and carers can contact the school office via email (admin@hotwellsprimaryschool.org) or phone (0117 9030044) to arrange a time to speak with their child's class teacher.

    Supporting Pupils and Families:

    Supporting pupils with additional needs:
We recognise that some pupils, including those with SEND, may require additional support to access remote learning. We will:

    • Adapt tasks to meet individual needs.
    • Provide differentiated resources.
    • Maintain contact with families to offer guidance and support.

Access to devices and the internet:
If your child does not have access to a suitable device or internet connection, please contact the school office. We will work with families to support access wherever possible.

    Safeguarding and Online Safety:
We take safeguarding seriously in all aspects of school life, including remote learning.

    • All online interactions will take place through approved platforms, including Google Classroom, Google Meet, and Class Dojo.
    • Pupils are expected to follow the school’s behaviour and online safety policies.
    • Parents are encouraged to supervise children’s online learning where possible.

    Monitoring Engagement:
We will monitor pupils’ engagement with remote learning and will contact families where there are concerns or where additional support may be needed.

We understand that remote learning can be challenging for families. Our aim is to provide clear, accessible, and supportive learning opportunities that enable every child to continue making progress. If you have any questions or need support, please do not hesitate to get in touch.
