Non-Uniform and Dress Code

At our school, we value comfort, individuality and a sense of community. As we do not have a compulsory school uniform, we ask all pupils and families to follow the dress code below to ensure clothing is suitable for a primary school environment.

School Hoodies:

Optional school hoodies are available to purchase and are encouraged for everyday wear, school trips, sporting events and community activities. Wearing school hoodies helps promote a sense of pride, belonging and identity within our school community.

Hotwells hoodies and sweatshirts can be ordered from our supplier, Alleycatz. Click here to visit their website or ask in the school office to find out what sizes we currently have available.

Clothing Expectations:

Children should come to school dressed in clothes that are:

  • Comfortable and suitable for learning and play.
  • Appropriate for the weather and school activities.
  • Safe and practical for moving around the school environment.
  • Clearly labelled with the child’s name where possible.

Clothing should fit appropriately and not be excessively loose or oversized, as this can present a safety risk during play and movement around school.  Likewise, children should be suitably covered at all times, particularly during warmer weather. Clothing worn to school should remain appropriate for a primary school setting. We encourage all children to take pride in their appearance and to dress in a way that reflects that they are attending school.

Clothing must not include:

  • Offensive, discriminatory or inappropriate language or images.
  • Clothing that promotes violence or unsafe behaviour.
  • Items that are excessively revealing or unsuitable for a primary school environment.

Footwear:

Children should wear sensible, secure footwear suitable for running, climbing and outdoor play. For safety reasons:

  • Shoes should fit securely and allow children to participate fully in school activities.
  • High heels, backless shoes or footwear that may cause accidents should not be worn. This includes Crocs, flip-flops or open-toe sandals.

Jewellery:

Jewellery should be kept to a minimum for safety reasons.

  • Stud earrings and simple watches may be worn.
  • Hooped earrings, necklaces, bracelets and other valuable items should not be worn to school.
  • Jewellery may need to be removed or covered during PE and sports activities.

The school cannot accept responsibility for lost or damaged jewellery or personal items.

We know that many families value the fact that our school does not have a formal uniform. In order for this approach to continue successfully, it is important that everyone supports and follows the expectations set out in this dress code. By working together, we can maintain a sensible, inclusive and positive approach to school clothing while continuing to promote pride in our school community.

We appreciate the support of families in helping children come to school dressed appropriately, safely, comfortably and ready to learn.
